MGNREGA staff strike continues

Our CorrespondentTarn Taran, July 6 The indefinite chain hunger strike, called by the district unit of the MGNREGA Karamchari Union, Punjab, entered Day 2 on Friday. The agitation was launched by the employees over non-payment of their monthly salary for the past 18 months. Gursimran Singh, leader of the organisation, said they had been demanding release of their salary for the past 18 months but to no avail. Women employees also participated in the demonstration. A day before, they had staged a dharna in front of Additional Deputy Commissioner’s (Development) office.

The agitation was launched by the employees over non-payment of their monthly salary for the past 18 months. A day before, they had staged a dharna in front of Additional Deputy Commissioner’s (Development) office. Women employees also participated in the demonstration. Gursimran Singh, leader of the organisation, said they had been demanding release of their salary for the past 18 months but to no avail. The union had lodged its complaint with the authorities 17 days ago. The protesters said they were assured of releasing their salary but nothing was done. They said their protest would go on.
