BATHINDA: The court of Moga additional session judge Tarsem Mangla on Tuesday adjourned hearing in Nathuwala police post drugs recovery case to July 31. The two accused policemen in the case —assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Jarnail Singh and head constable Jasvir Singh — were present in the court. The third accused former head constable Davinder Singh had died few years back.It was on September 6, 2013 that, the drug recovery was registered against three cops. Jarnail, Davinder (now dead) and munshi Jasvir were nabbed with 1.68 quintal poppy husk, 66 bottles of illicit liquor and Rs 46,000 cash from Natthuwala police post falling under Baghapurana police station in district Moga.Kamaljit Singh Dhillon was then posted as SSP Moga and had claimed that drugs and liquor were hidden in the police check post by the cops. The cops were dismissed from service and sent to jail. However, Moga police failed to produce the challan against the cops even after stipulated six months resulting in the court of sessions judge Harpal Singh granting bail to the cops on March 11, 2014. Soon after SSP Dhillon and then Baghapurana SHO Amarjit Singh were transfered from Moga.SSP Dhillon was again posted at Moga on July 2 but was shifted after five days after a report by Punjab Bureau of Investigation indicted him for taking Rs 40 lakh from accused cops and delaying filing of chargesheet against them. Dhillon had said that FIR against three cops was registered on his orders but filing challan in time was not the job of the SSP.During the case proceedings head constable Davinder Singh died and other the two cops Jarnail and Jasvir were reinstated on the orders of then DIG Ferozepur range Mohnish Chawla in December 2014.Re-inquiry report in the case was filed on February 12, 2015. It was claimed then that the case was false. The re-probe was conducted by Moga SP (D) H S Pannu wherein he had recorded that the cops were ‘framed’ in the case and recommended that case be withdrawn. The court, however, refused to accept the cancellation report.Pannu then had claimed that as per locations got from mobile phones towers, three cops were not present in the police post from 11 pm to 4 am on September 6, 2013, as claimed by the policemen who had conducted the raid. Then SHO Baghapurana Amarjit Singh, however, had claimed that cops were caught with drugs. The accused cops had alleged that Dhillon took bribe of Rs 40 lakh from them to get the case cancelled and IG L K Yadav has indicted the then area DSP in his probe report.Rupinder Brar, counsel for ASI Jarnail said, “At present, the statements of defense witnesses are being recorded after which arguments will start. The case today was adjourned to July 31 for the next hearing.”
