GNDU ex-professor appointed Chancellor of HP central varsity

Tribune News ServiceAmritsar, July 11Former GNDU Prof Dr Harmohinder Singh Bedi, head of Hindi department, has been appointed Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) in Dharmshala. He was honoured with ‘Kavi Rattan’ by Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sahitya Academy. Dr Bedi was honoured by former President Pranab Mukherjee for his contribution to the Hindi literature. He was awarded with Shiromani Hindi Sahityakar by the state government in 2004 while the Uttar Pradesh government also honoured him with Shiromani Sahityakar honour. Talking to The Tribune, he said that in the capacity of a chancellor, he would focus on providing education facilities to students hailing from remote areas of Himachal Pradesh or other parts of the country.

Amritsar, July 11 Former GNDU Prof Dr Harmohinder Singh Bedi, head of Hindi department, has been appointed Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) in Dharmshala. He is likely to join the university this week. He has been appointed for five years by President Ram Nath Kovind. Born in Mukerian in Hoshiarpur, Dr Bedi has been a prominent name in the Hindi literature with over 200 research papers and articles published in different famous publications to his credit. He has around 16 research papers on his name published in foreign journals. He is also member of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and National Monitoring Committee for Minorities’ Education. Dr Bedi was honoured by former President Pranab Mukherjee for his contribution to the Hindi literature. He was awarded with Shiromani Hindi Sahityakar by the state government in 2004 while the Uttar Pradesh government also honoured him with Shiromani Sahityakar honour. He has also a national award to his name for his poetry book ‘Garm Loha’. He was honoured with ‘Kavi Rattan’ by Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sahitya Academy. Besides authoring three Hindi poetry books, he has written three books on Punjabi language. Talking to The Tribune, he said that in the capacity of a chancellor, he would focus on providing education facilities to students hailing from remote areas of Himachal Pradesh or other parts of the country. “I will aim for providing lesser fee structure and maximum facilities to the student and homely environment to them,” he said. “Latest courses with emphasis on employment generation besides research in different fields would be my focus My stint as chancellor will also provide me an opportunity to carry out research on undivided Punjab which once included Haryana and Himachal Pradesh,” he added.
