Anganwadi workers seek hike in salary, stage protest

Tribune News ServiceAmritsar, July 10Members of the Anganwadi Workers’ Union staged a protest in front of state BJP president Shwait Malik’s residence here on Tuesday. Jagdish Thakur, general secretary of the Punjab State Ministerial Staff Union, said an amount of Rs 200 from the salaries of June and July had already been deducted. The union demanded a hike in their salary.Meanwhile, members of the Punjab State Ministerial Staff Union and other employee associations also protested the development tax of Rs 200 per month here on Tuesday. Union leader Anoop Kaur said before the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had promised to strengthen anganwadi centres and increase the salary of workers, but after forming the government, it had reduced their funds. Raising slogans, association members flayed the government for making dope tests mandatory for all employees.
