Mother arrested while trying to smuggle smack for son lodged in jail

PATIALA: An alert guard stationed at the meeting area inside the Patiala central jail on Friday foiled an attempt made by a 58-year-old woman to smuggle smack for her son who is lodged in jail.Angrej Kaur of Nihal village in Patran sub-division of the district was caught with 15 grams of smack stacked in multiple plastic wrappers. However, she was nabbed before the drugs could exchange hands. She was immediately detained by the jail staff and the Tripuri police were called in to register a case against her.It emerged that Angrej Kaur had come to meet her son Kuldeep Singh, who is undergoing 10-year jail term after being convicted in a ransom case and tried to pass on the narcotics to him. The drugs were recovered from her purse.Meanwhile, jail superintendent Rajan Kapoor said as per their information, his son was a not an addict which pointed out at the possibility of narcotics being arranged to be sold to other inmates inside the jail.Later, the woman was arrested by the Tripuri police, which registered a case under sections of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) act.
