Punjab govt to construct 32 ROBs and RUBs to curb traffic snarls

About the work of the four-laning of Bhandari Bridge Loop, Singla said that it had been constructed under Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).“This ROB has been designed and constructed to ease out the traffic jam on existing Bhandari bridge situated in the heart of the city and is the lifeline of BRTS project,” said the PWD minister.Singla also laid the foundation of special repair work of Mudhal to Verka Canal section of Amritsar-Pathankot Road and Vallah Railway Crossing to Amritsar Bypass stretch at a cost of Rs 1.75 crore and Rs 2.10 crore respectively. AMRITSAR: To decongest traffic snarls across its cities, the Punjab government would construct 32 new railway over bridges (ROB) and railway under bridges (RUB) across the state within two years at an estimated cost of Rs 1350 crore, PWD minister Vijay Inder Singla said.While inaugurating Bhandari Bridge Loop on Monday in presence of his cabinet colleagues, including local body minster Navjot Singh Sidhu , education minster OP Soni and Lok Sabha member Gurjit Aujla , claimed that Majha area of Punjab would be the biggest beneficiary of the scheme with seven ROBs and RUBs which would be constructed at a cost of Rs 355 crore.There would be an ROB each at Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Dina Nagar and Pathankot followed by RUB at Sujanpur and Nalunga in Pathankot and at Tibri road Gurdaspur, he said.“With projects at various stages of planning and execution, besides easing the vehicular traffic, the ROBs on all manned and unmanned level crossings would eliminate the risk of accidents due to human error,” said Singla.
