Punjab government to construct 32 ROBs, RUBs, says Vijay Inder Singla

AMRITSAR: The Punjab government has decided to construct 32 new railway over bridges (ROBs) and railway under bridges (RUBs) across the state to ease traffic snarls on roads. Besides easing vehicular traffic, the ROBs on all manned and unmanned level crossings would eliminate the risk of accidents due to human error,” said Singla. There would be a ROB each in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Dinanagar and Pathankot and RUB each at Sujanpur and Nalunga in Pathankot and at Tibri road Gurdaspur , he said.“The projects are at various stages of planning and execution. Punjab PWD minister Vijay Inder Singla made the announcement while talking to media persons after the inauguration of Bhandari Bridge Loop here Monday.Singla said the RoBs/RUBs would be constructed within two years at an estimated cost of Rs 1,350 crore.He claimed that Majha area of Punjab would be the biggest beneficiary of the scheme, with seven ROBs and RUBs coming up here at a cost of Rs 355 crore. Asked about the work on four-laning of Bhandari Bridge Loop, the minister said it had been constructed under Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) .“This ROB has been designed and constructed to ease traffic on the existing Bhandari bridge, situated right in the heart of the city, and is the lifeline of BRTS project,” the minister said.

He also laid the foundation stone of special repair work of Mudhal to Verka Canal section of Amritsar- Pathankot road and Vallah Railway Crossing to Amritsar Bypass stretch at a cost of Rs 1.75 crore and Rs 2.10 crore, respectively.The minister made the announcement in the presence of his cabinet colleagues including local bodies minster Navjot Singh Sidhu , education minster O P Soni and MP Gurjit Aujla among others.
