When asked about the land dispute, IIM nodal officer P K Singh said in calculated words ‘we are trying’. The sources said the IIM authorities had offered the three owners of the land a 10-foot passage adjacent to its boundary but they had demanded a minimum 15-foot passage. AMRITSAR: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Amritsar, will have to give access to owners and farm helps of three stretches of agriculture land through its new campus coming up on the outskirts of the holy city as their land is adjacent to the campus.“So far, we have not been able to make any compromise with the owners of around 10 acres of agriculture land bordering the IIM land. So, for now, we have to give them access to their fields through the campus only,” said Ramesh Kumar Rampal, a construction consultant with the IIM.He said they had made a provision of a separate gate in the boundary wall of the IIM for giving access to the owners as well as the labourers, who will be going to work in their fields. The human resource development ministry had selected the site for IIM’s permanent campus in June 2015 and in May 2016, the land was transferred to the IIM society, following which finance minister Arun Jaitley had laid the foundation stone of the campus on June 19, 2016.The sarpanch said nearly 10 acres were owned by three NRIs Surta Singh, Kulwant Singh and Mehar Singh.

Sources said the unpleasant situation arose due to the negligence of the authorities concerned, who had failed to thoroughly check or study the approach roads of the adjoining lands of IIM’s 60 acres situated at Nijjaarpura and Rakh Cheeta villages before the state government transferred the land to IIM Amritsar society.Agreeing to it, sarpanch of Nijjapura village Jagdeep Singh Judge said, “They should have carried out a thorough study of the surrounding lands before suggesting this piece of land to the state government.
