New surveillance system at Amritsar's International Airport to provide extra aircraft safety, cut on air waiting

AMRITSAR: There wouldn’t be anymore air waiting of aircraft preparing to land at Sri Guru Ramdas international airport after commissioning of Air Traffic Services surveillance systems which was inaugurated by AK Dutta , member, Air Navigation System of Airports Authority of India, on Friday.Dutta said that the new system would enable controllers to provide direct routing to the aircraft which would save time and fuel of airlines thereby reducing carbon emission in the environment.Giving details, Amritsar airport director Manoj Chansoria said that till now Air Traffic Control (ATC) used to control the movement of aircraft manually due to which separation between two aircraft had to be kept higher besides the ATC would get to know the position of aircraft only from the pilot and the controller wouldn’t be able to see the position of aircraft .Many a time ATC had to hold the aircraft in air and keep them at safe separation distance which often leads to delay in landings, there wouldn’t be any delays and fuel savings.But now after the installation of surveillance system, the ATC would be able to see the position of aircraft on radar and the separation between two aircraft would be minimised.
