I, along with the sangat, headed for Kotkapura, where scores of persons led by some religious preachers had assembled. A bullet had hit his right thigh, crossing over to left thigh when the police opened fire at protesters. They called me at Bajakhana police station, where my statement was recorded on Tuesday and a case registered. But we are not satisfied with this and want the police to identify the guilty cops and give them exemplary punishment. It has been sent to the DGP office in order to transfer it to the CBI for investigation, he added.

BATHINDA: Twentyone-year-old Ajit Singh has started nursing the hope that finally justice may be provided to Sikh sangat by prosecuting the cops who cane-charged and fired at peacefully sitting protesters at light point chowk of Kotkapura town of Faridkot on the morning of October 14, 2015.Ajit, a native of Chhana Gulab Singh village in Barnala district, then studying in BA-I at TPD College, Rampura, was among the sangat protesting against the act of sacrilege at Bargari on October 12. A bullet had hit his right thigh, crossing over to left thigh when the police opened fire at protesters. Ajit had to spend two and half months at a private hospital in Ludhiana, where the treatment was done with the money collected by sangat. A case under attempt to murder and various other sections was finally registered at Kotkapura city police station on Tuesday against unknown policemen. Now, apart from punishment to guilty policemen, he, along with his family is waiting for the financial assistance announced a few days ago by Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh while reading out the recommendations of the Justice (retd) Ranjit Singh Commission report.Ajit said, “On October 13, 2015, I read out in the newspapers about torn pages of a ‘bir’ thrown outside a gurdwara at Bargari. My father Avtar Singh was working as a granthi at a gurdwara of Nathpura village in Bathinda district. I, along with the sangat, headed for Kotkapura, where scores of persons led by some religious preachers had assembled. We spent the night at Kotkapura light point chowk while reciting gurbani. At 5.30am on October 14, a large number of policemen surrounded the protesters and in few minutes started the cane charge and even used water canons on us. Later, it even indulged in firing. A bullet hit me in the right thigh and crossed over to the left. When a few persons from the sangat tried to pick me to take to hospital the police rained lathis on them. I was taken to civil hospital Kotkapura, from where I was referred to a hospital in Ludhiana.”An ASI and a head constable had reached the Ludhiana hospital and recorded my statement but the police is claiming that no statement had been recorded, Ajit, who now is studying in BA-final, said. Two days ago some policemen reached Chhana Gulab Singh village but as my father is posted at Ghania village gurdwara in Barnala, we are residing on its premises. They called me at Bajakhana police station, where my statement was recorded on Tuesday and a case registered. But we are not satisfied with this and want the police to identify the guilty cops and give them exemplary punishment. We also want that the state should get those cops who had fired at the protesters at Behbal Kalan, killing Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Gurjit Singh identified and arrested,” he said, adding that, “I have also given an affidavit to the commission.”Faridkot SSP Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu confirmed the registration of the case. It has been sent to the DGP office in order to transfer it to the CBI for investigation, he added.
