AMRITSAR: Amritsar rural police have arrested six persons for allegedly killing former SAD sapranch Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Khiayala Kalan village, on August 7.Talking to newspersons here on Saturday, Amritsar rural senior superintendent of police (SSP) Parampal Singh said police arrested Dilpreet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Sarwan Singh, Gurbhej Singh, Laada Singh and Gurbhej Singh.He said Dilpreet had a land dispute with Sarabjit and had killed him on the instigation of another accused. Majithia said the Congress government was abetting anti-social elements in the wake of ensuing panchayat elections.He produced Sandeep Singh, sarpanch of Udoke vilage, before media and claimed that he was being allegedly threatened by an anti-social element, Harman Roop, to not contest the ensuing panchayat polls. Despite the video of the threat going viral on social media, police had not taken any action, Majithia said.Refuting the allegations of Majithia, Congress MLA Raj Kumar Verka said the Akalis were protecting gangsters in Punjab. “Akalis seem to have forgotten what was happening during their regime. All present-day gangsters were groomed during the Akali government’s tenure,” he said.
