AMRITSAR: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Sucha Singh Langah has written to the Akal Takht seeking his re-induction into the Sikh Panth after he was acquitted of rape charges by a Gurdaspur court.Langah was excommunicated after a video went viral on the social media in which he was allegedly seen getting intimate with a woman outside of marriage, which is considered immoral transgression in Sikh religion.According to sources, Langah has sought pardon to rejoin the Panth on the plea that he had been acquitted by the court in the matter. In September 2017, Langah was booked by Gurdaspur police under Sections 376 (rape), 384 (extortion), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC on the complaint of a woman constable he had been allegedly raping her since 2009. The woman had also handed over a video clip of Langah allegedly abusing her. Later, police also added Section 295-A (hurting the religious sentiments) of the IPC into the FIR against the Akali leader, following complaints from Sikh bodies. The video went viral on net causing much embarrassment to the SAD leadership which took no time and suspended Langah from the primary membership of the party. After evading arrest for nearly over a month, Langah surrendered before the Gurdaspur court on October 5, 2017.In March 2018, in major relief to Langah, the woman in question retracted from her previous statement and said she was not the one who was seen in the video clip.
