Man flaunts political link to take away seized food samples

Amritsar district health officer Dr Lakhbir Singh Bhagowalia on Monday said a team of health department had gone to Jandiala Guru for collecting food samples under Tandrust Punjab Mission. He said the team found poor quality, putrid bakery items and unapproved food colours from a bakery and destroyed those on the spot. "We also took four samples. "When we again went to the bakery with a police party, its owner Pawan Kumar not only misbehaved with us but also refused to give samples.

AMRITSAR: An unidentified person, claiming to be a close aide of a politician in Jandiala Guru near Amritsar, forcibly took away four food samples taken by a team of the health department from a bakery and locked the two employees of the department in the shop. The captives were later rescued with the help of the police. But when we were about to leave, a person came there claiming that he was a close aide of a local politician and threatened us," he alleged, adding that the man forcibly took away the samples and fled from the spot. Bhagowalia alleged the man also locked two health department employees Gurjit Singh and Paramjit Singh in the shop."When we again went to the bakery with a police party, its owner Pawan Kumar not only misbehaved with us but also refused to give samples. However, we got our employees rescued with the help of police," said district health officer. Bhagowalia said they had lodged a complaint.
