The case was registered after the parents of the abducted girl attempted suicide by jumping into the canal and levelled allegations against the police for not taking any action in the case. The parents of the girl were tensed following the missing of their daughter but they did not reach us with any complaint. The diver Shankar claimed that the middle-aged woman first jumped into the canal and then her husband jumped following which we noticed about the suicide attempt. The girl was abducted on August 24.“An investigating team has been formed to start tracing the girl and her abductor. PATIALA: The Tripuri police here has registered a case under sections of IPC against a local resident for abducting a fifteen-year-old minor girl. The case was registered after the parents of the abducted girl attempted suicide by jumping into the canal and levelled allegations against the police for not taking any action in the case. They claimed that the police did not make any efforts in searching out their abducted daughter.The girl’s family who works as a labourer on Wednesday evening jumped into the Bhakhra canal but the divers save them by taking quick action. The diver Shankar claimed that the middle-aged woman first jumped into the canal and then her husband jumped following which we noticed about the suicide attempt. Shankar said that immediate action by the divers saved their lives and the police was informed about the incident.However, the police refuted the allegations and claimed that the parents of the girl had not given them any written complaint.The police claimed that boy and girl hail from the same colony and were known to each other. The police added that the girl earlier had also eloped with the boy but returned after a few days. The girl was abducted on August 24.“An investigating team has been formed to start tracing the girl and her abductor. The parents of the girl were tensed following the missing of their daughter but they did not reach us with any complaint. They were initially reluctant to register any case maintaining that it would bring a bad name to the family. But we took initiative and registered the case after counseling them and then got their complaint. We have assured them that their daughter would return home safely. The family of the girl and boy are working as labourers. However, the families were unwilling to give any consent to their relationship as both were neighbours. We are investigating into the matter," said the investigation officer.
