Ballot papers to be used for zila parishad, block samiti polls

GURDASPUR: Ballot papers will be used for voting in the upcoming zila parishad and block samiti elections, said Gurdaspur deputy commissioner Vipul Uzwal on Friday. He said candidates for zila parishad polls could spend up to Rs 1.9 lakh on campaigning, whiled block samiti candidates could spend up to Rs 80,000. He added that places for worship and preaching religion should not be used as a forum for election propaganda. He warned parties and candidates against indulging in any activities which may create communal and caste tension. He added that as the model code of conduct had come into force for the rural elections, district electoral officers-cum-deputy commissioners and police were now authorized to initiate prosecution against violation of the code.
