ABOHAR: Former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday dared chief minister Amarinder Singh to “demonstrate the courage to prosecute and try us in a court of law” if there is any truth in the allegations against Akalis on the sacrilege issue . Badal was addressing a rally organized by the SAD-BJP here on Sunday. He alleged that Amarinder’s “blasphemous tirade” against the SAD on the sacrilege issue was merely an attempt to divert people’s attention away from his own grievous and public crime of sacrilege against the sacred Gurbani committed while making false promises to the people while holding the Guru’s word in the holy Gutka Sahib.Referring to the incidents of sacrilege in the state during the SAD-BJP tenure in Punjab, he said, “We can sacrifice millions of Badals and millions of Sukhbir Badals just to safeguard the honour, dignity and glory of Guru Granth Sahib ,” adding that, “If you have the moral and political courage, then come and take us to court on the basis of whatever evidence you can cook against us,” he said.Incidentally, the rally was organised in Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar’s bastion, Abohar, which he had been representing in the assembly till he lost the last election. Badal added that Operation Bluestar was the biggest and the most painful incident of sacrilege in the history of the world. He also lashed out against Amarinder, accusing him of indulging in vendetta politics to divert the people’s attention from what he claimed failures of his government on every front. He claimed that he and his party had always stood for a fair inquiry into all cases of sacrilege by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court and this was why the SAD had rejected the “biased” Justice Ranjit Singh Commission. He alleged that the retired judge was a close relative of AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira and was friends with the CM.Party president Sukhbir Badal termed Amarinder a “coward” because he never agreed to protest against oppressive governments. “I remember you ran away from going to jail for the cause of the people.” He advised him not to even think of comparing himself with Badal senior as the latter had spent more time in jail than your tenure in politics.Taking on Jakhar, Sukhbir said the SAD flag was flying high not only in Jakhar’s village Panjkosi, but also in Abohar town. He said this was the same Jakhar whose father Balram Jakhar as Lok Sabha Speaker had said “if we have to kill two crore Sikhs for the sake of the country’s integrity, we will kill them”. He said Jakhar was also unleashing a reign of terror by registering false cases against women and even minors.
