Panchayat poll: Akali Dal, Congress workers scuffle

Babehali said Congress workers had tumbled the turban of one of their workers Kuljinder Singh, whose complaint they were preparing.On the other hand, president of Gurdaspur's Youth Congress unit Baljit Singh Pahara said. He claimed three Congress workers had sustained injuries.Meanwhile, Gurdaspur SSP Swarandeep Singh said police had not received information about anyone getting seriously injured. GURDASPUR: A scuffle broke out on Monday between Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress workers in the Gurdaspur district administrative complex during the scrutiny of nomination papers for the election to the block samiti and zila parishad.Workers and leaders of both parties got into a fistfight for a few minutes accusing the other side of attacking their supporters. Police resorted to mild cane charge to disperse the agitated workers of both parties but have not registered any FIR as no complaint was filed by either side.According to police reports, an argument broke between candidates of Akali Dal and the Congress over some issue which escalated into a free for all. As the news of scuffle broke out, immediately leaders of both the parties arrived at the administrative complex which further aggravated the issue.Talking to TOI, SAD's Gurdaspur unit president Gurbachan Singh Babehali alleged, "Congress workers slapped one of our workers even as we were sitting outside the complex.
