Punjab: Fire breaks out at private hospital, no casualty

LUDHIANA: Over 20 patients had a narrow escape after a fire broke out at Mediways Hospital on Ferozepur Road on Thursday evening. He said the exact reason behind fire incident is yet to be ascertained but their first priority was to take out the patients safely out of the isolation wards and private rooms on that floor. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.The fire broke out at the third floor of the building following with the hospital authorities evacuated all the patients and staff to avoid any tragedy.The fire department received a call at around 5.10pm about the incident and that some of the patients were stuck at the third floor of the hospital building.The station fire officer Maninder Singh revealed that fire erupted inside a store room where hospital had kept stock of beds. He also claimed that patients were shifted to other nearby hospitals immediately.It took fire tenders about an hour to control the flames even after the hospital staff had already used the fire extinguishers and hydrants to control the situation.The assistant divisional fire officer Bhupinder Singh said, “The fire system at hospital was satisfactory and they had NOC from the fire brigade department.”DR Ravinder Tah of the Burns and Plastic Surgery Department informed that the fire was in the isolation ward which was being used as a store room and there was no patient admitted near that place.
