AMRITSAR: A BEd student suffered burns after two unidentified bike-borne men threw acid on her while she was on her way to home in Ajnala town near Amritsar on Friday.The girl sustained 8% burn injuries on her face and neck, informed superintendent of police (Operations), Shailender Singh.The name of the girl and her village is withheld to protect her identity.Singh informed that the girl had recently taken admission in a BEd college at Fatehgarh Churian town.The girl cried for help following which passersby took her to a nearby hospital for treatment.During preliminary investigations, police sources informed that the incident appears to be a handiwork of a jilted lover who, with the help of his accomplice, threw acid on the hapless girl.Sources further informed that victims' clothes were also burnt since a large part of acid fell on her clothes.Shailendra informed that the girl had denied recognising the accused since their faces were covered adding that police was recording her statement on the basis of which FIR would be lodged.
