Low-intensity blasts in Jalandhar police station

JALANDHAR: Four low-intensity explosions took place inside Maqsoodan police station here just before 8 pm on Friday. There is confusion over what caused the blasts, but the police have claimed that some explosive substance was thrown inside the police station and that led to a series of blasts.These were no fatalities in the blasts and only a head constable was slightly injured.As the blasts took place, police personnel rushed out of the police station, which was then sealed. Senior police officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. Head constable Parminderjeet Singh received a gash in the blast and was taken to a nearby hospital from where he was discharged after receiving medication.Later in the night, DGP Arora visited the police station and described the blasts as “a mischief.” He added that only the forensic team would confirm what material was used to cause these low-intensity explosions.Notably, Maqsoodan police station has busted quite a few drug rackets in the recent past. Incidentally, Punjab DGP Suresh Arora was in the city at the time.After inspecting the spot and interacting with the police personnel who were inside at the time of the blasts, commissioner of police Parveen Sinha said it appeared that some kind of explosives were lobbed from outside and low-intensity blasts occurred at different places inside the police station.Only a forensic examination would be able reveal the nature of the explosive used, he added.One of the low-intensity explosions took place outside the SHO’s office, causing the windows to be shattered.
