Punjab panchayat polls: Violence in Majha too

AMRITSAR: Sporadic incidents of violence between workes of the SAD and the Congress were reported during zila parishad and block samiti elections in Punjab’s Majha region on Wednesday. Similarly, a photo journalist was prevented from taking photos at Gagomahal village and an agitated group snatched his camera.Heated verbal dual broke out between Akali and Congress workers at Lodhi Gujjar village near Rajasansi village. An incident of firing in the air was also reported from Balarwal village. SAD spokesperson Sarchand Singh informed that Akali candidates were prevented from setting up their booth in Abadi Varpal village in Majitha.A scuffle also broke out at Nag Nawaen village over setting up of booth. At Gagomahal village in Ajnala tehsil of Amritsar district, Congress and Akali workers got into a brawl, duirng which a gunshot was fired in the air and the camera of a photo journalist snatched.In another incident at Chhina Bidhi Chand village, a voter sustained minor injuries.

At Gagomahal village in Ajnala tehsil of Amritsar district, Congress and Akali workers got into a brawl, duirng which a gunshot was fired in the air and the camera of a photo journalist snatched.In another incident at Chhina Bidhi Chand village, a voter sustained minor injuries. An incident of firing in the air was also reported from Balarwal village. Similarly, a photo journalist was prevented from taking photos at Gagomahal village and an agitated group snatched his camera.Heated verbal dual broke out between Akali and Congress workers at Lodhi Gujjar village near Rajasansi village. SAD spokesperson Sarchand Singh informed that Akali candidates were prevented from setting up their booth in Abadi Varpal village in Majitha.A scuffle also broke out at Nag Nawaen village over setting up of booth. Damanjeet Singh, officer on special duty (OSD) to Khadoor Sahib MP, informed that Congress workers tried to capture the booth at Jiobala and other areas in Khadoor Sahib in Tarn Taran district , injuring one of their workers, Anakhdeep Singh.In Gurdaspur, Akalis boycotted polls in three assembly constituencies of Gurdaspur, Fatehgarh Churian and Dera Baba Nanak.
