Muktsar tops districts with repoll in 36 booths on Friday

BATHINDA: Repoll at 53 booths in eight districts will be held on Friday for for zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections, and of these 36 booths are in Muktsar district. Bathinda range IGP M F Farooqui said, “Poll violence related 13 cases have been registered in the Bathinda range comprising Bathinda, Muktsar and Mansa districts. There are 12 cases registered in various police stations of Muktsar and one in Dialpura Bhaika police station of Bathinda.” No one will be allowed to take law into their hands.”He said investigations were being made in the case registered against Sukhbir and any further action would be taken as per the outcome of the probe. The groups of Congressmen roamed freely and snatched ballot papers from the polling staff and electorates, he had claimed.Akali leader Tejinder Singh Middukhera from Lambi assembly segment said, “We will keep strict vigil tomorrow during repolling and will ensure no Congress supporter intimidates our voters.”Muktsar SSP Manjit Singh Dhesi said, “Foolproof security arrangements have been made at all the 36 booths spread across 18 villages in the district.

Voting will be held again at 18 booths in seven other districts.One of the booths in Muktsar where repolling is scheduled is at Killianwali of Lambi assembly segment, where Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal was booked on Wednesday night for inciting his party men to beat up a Congress worker.SAD patron and former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had on Wednesday alleged that Congress supporters indulged in highhandedness and intimidated Akali workers at many places in Lambi, Malout and Muktsar.
