Now ‘Panthic Assembly’ to prepare document on sacrilege incidents

AMRITSAR: Stating that despite formation of several commissions, special investigation teams and staging morchas, perpetrators of incidents of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib are still not behind bars, various Sikh groups have now decided to hold a ‘Panthic Assembly’ comprising of 117 Sikh representatives from Punjab and abroad to set next course of action.While talking to TOI on Monday core committee member of Panthic Talmel Sangathan Jaswinder Singh Advocate said that neither the previous Akali government nor the present Congress government had booked the persons who were responsible for blatantly hurting Sikh’s religious sentiments, which necessitated a need of holding the ‘Panthic Assembly’ to discuss all aspects including political and social during the time of incidents of desecration and preparing a document on the same.The event would be held in Amritsar on October 20 and 21.Six-member panel, including former jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Kewal Singh, SGPC former general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, Navkiran Singh, Kanwarpal Singh, Jagmohan Singh and Jaswinder Singh Advocate, was in the process of short listing 117 Sikh representatives from Punjab and abroad who would participate in the event.Interestingly, the Panthic Assembly would san leaders from SAD and Congress besides none of the Jathedar appointed by SGPC or its office-bearers including president would be invited to be the party of Patnhic Assembly.Sikh intellectuals, social workers, economists, agriculturists, ex-servicemen, former jathedars could be part of the event to discuss the role of the then government under whose tenure incidents of sacrilege happened in Punjab, role of civil and police administration and the political scenario.“We will prepare a document for public and for submitting to law makers and law implementing agencies,” he said.Kewal Singh said the figure 117 didn’t represent the geographical constituencies of Punjab but the number scoff at the 117 member Punjab assembly that discussed on the incidents of desecration but took no action.He said through the event, the Sikh representatives wouldn’t be talking about each other but they would be talking to each other to exhort pressure on the government for taking strict and timely action against who had hatched conspiracies for vested interests.
