Action on sacrilege imminent, says Sunil Jakhar

In their heart of hearts, the opposition leaders know that the Congress will act in the matter.” CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar on Friday said action against those accused of incidents of sacrilege in the state was imminent and Congress government had set the ball rolling ever since the special investigation team (SIT) was constituted.Talking to media persons, Jakhar said, “Ever since Congress government has taken over, things have been moving in the right progression on this issue. As for the opposition parties, they too know that the Congress will act on the issue and they are trying to take credit for it. It is a serious issue, which is close to the heart of the people of the state and Congress has been aware of this from the outset. I am not privy to what the SIT is doing, but the developments so far indicate an imminent action.”“Things do take time and now it’s a question of ‘when’ and not ‘if’ the action will be taken.

In the last assembly session, AAP too had supported Congress against the sacrilege and they know that the present government will fulfill its commitment,” he said.“The way certain people were approaching the Punjab and Haryana High Court , it is evident that they had sensed that the state government is serious in its resolve to act on the Justice Ranjit Singh commission report,” said Jakhar.On AAP leader HS Phoolka’s resignation from Punjab assembly, Jakhar said, “It is his decision but in the Punjab assembly, Phoolka too had appreciated chief minister for his efforts to bring those accused of sacrilege to book. In their heart of hearts, the opposition leaders know that the Congress will act in the matter.”
