Car robber arrested after chase, shooting in Batala

Batala SSP O S Ghuman said that DSP Varinderpreet Singh chased the snatchers' vehicle, which had jumped one of the barriers. He said when they reached the second barrier, they turned the vehicle but Varinderpreet banged his car into the stolen Innova to prevent them from fleeing. When he was unloading the sixth vehicle, two youths suddenly came and threatened him and the driver with a gun. Preliminary interrogation of the accused revealed that they were involved in various cases of snatching of vehicles. AMRITSAR: In a dramatic chase, police managed to arrest one of the robbers when they were trying to flee with a stolen car from Amritsar on Saturday in Batala.Two car snatchers made away with a brand new Toyota Innova while it was being unloaded from a truck and fled towards Batala, where they opened fire on the police after being intercepted.

Police arrested one of the snatchers Jyotbir Singh while his accomplice Gursewak Singh is believed to be hiding in a residential area of Batala.Vinod Kumar, a pre-delivery inspector at the Toyota showroom on the GT Road in Amritsar, said that he had unloaded five Innova MUVs and parked those in the showroom. When he was unloading the sixth vehicle, two youths suddenly came and threatened him and the driver with a gun. "One of them sat on the driver's seat and the other one in the back seat and fled with the white Toyota Innova," he said.As the news spread, the police sounded an alert in both Amritsar and Batala and laid barriers to nab the robbers. He said when they reached the second barrier, they turned the vehicle but Varinderpreet banged his car into the stolen Innova to prevent them from fleeing. The SSP said after that both robbers got down and started firing on the police party but no one was injured.He informed the police, which managed to arrest Jyotbir while his accomplice Gursewak absconded. Preliminary interrogation of the accused revealed that they were involved in various cases of snatching of vehicles.
