Mansa farmers prefer to go to Haryana mandis for paddy with high moisture

As far as purchases of grains with more moisture content are concerned it has not come to notice, except only one case at village Babbanpur. A commission agent said that some arhtiyas have taken licenses in Haryana as well and go to purchase centres in Haryana to buy grains.Mansa deputy commissioner Apneet Riyat admitted that the farmers from Mansa were taking their produce to Haryana mandis. We have alerted the police and have put up nakas to stop this practice.”

BATHINDA: Scores of farmers from villages of Mansa are preferring to transport their crop across the state border to grain markets of Haryana instead of taking the crop to Punjab mandis . It is learnt the farmers face no hardships in selling the paddy crop with more moisture content higher than permissible limits of 17% at the purchase centres of Haryana falling in Fatehabad.Farmers from villages of Boha area of Mansa which are situated near the Haryana border are taking the grains to purchase centres set up in villages of Haryana adjoining Punjab. Sources said the purchase agencies ignore the somewhat more moisture content in Haryana whereas in Punjab the agencies especially the Food Corporation of India (FCI) is strict in following moisture content norms.With the farmers taking crop to adjoining state, the state marketing board has to suffer loss of mandi fee and rural development fund, which is collected upon farmer unloading the grains for selling in state mandis.Sources said the farmers of half a dozen villages ion Boha area have got their grains to purchases centres at villages Brahanwala, Ladhuwas, Babbanpur and Mahindko in Fatehabad district and faced no problem in selling the grains irrespective of moisture content. A commission agent said that some arhtiyas have taken licenses in Haryana as well and go to purchase centres in Haryana to buy grains.Mansa deputy commissioner Apneet Riyat admitted that the farmers from Mansa were taking their produce to Haryana mandis. If farmer from Punjab takes the grains to other state it is the loss of the parent state so we are putting up strict nakas to stop all this from happening but along with this we are serious on not purchasing grains with more moisture content than permissible limits.”When contacted, Fatehabad deputy commissioner J K Abhir said, “Though some of the cases of Punjab farmers taking crop to purchase centres of Haryana at bordering villages have come to fore but the activity is only at small scale. As far as purchases of grains with more moisture content are concerned it has not come to notice, except only one case at village Babbanpur. We have alerted the police and have put up nakas to stop this practice.”
