10 Amritsar councillors question man who lodged complaint against Sidhus, Saurabh Mithu

AMRITSAR: As many as 10 municipal councillors from Amritsar (East) assembly constituency questioned the ‘motive’ of Lakhbir Singh, a scrap dealer, who has held Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu , his wife Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu and president of Dussehra Committee (East) Saurabh Mithu Madam responsible for the train tragedy and also lodged a police complaint against them.Sidhu is the MLA from Amritsar (East) assembly constituency. She said application was not processed for providing services as she was not in office. “He never complained to her then and instead was expressing gratitude towards for helping the injured,” said Navdeep.Meanwhile, Sidhu handed over cheques of financial assistance to 5 more victim families of the rail tragedy. The minister also added that though many people are coming forward to adopt the children rendered orphan in the tragedy, the government would only allow the adoption to take place after the completion of formalities and procedures according to the law.When contacted, Amritsar municipal commissioner Sonali Giri said no permission was asked in the letter submitted in her office. On Wednesday, he had lodged a police complaint, suggesting the sections of the IPC under which Sidhu couple, and Mithu should be booked.A large number of SAD and BJP leaders, including Bikram Singh Majithia and Tarun Chugh, had accompanied Lakhbir to the police station.The municipal councillors also released a video of Dr Sidhu where she is seen meeting Lakhbir in the hospital after the accident.

In a hurriedly convened press conference by the municipal councillors Navdeep, Harpal Verka, Ajit Bhatia, Moti Bhatia, Damandeep Singh, Girish, Shalinder, Rakesh Madan and Charandeep on Friday questioned the credibility of Lakhbir’s motive.They also sought a forensic investigation to know whether the diary number issued by office of Amritsar municipal commissioner with respect to the application submitted by Dussehra Committee (East) president Mithu was genuine.They claimed that Lakhbir was a BJP worker and his brother had contested municipal corporation elections as the party candidate. On Wednesday, he had lodged a police complaint, suggesting the sections of the IPC under which Sidhu couple, and Mithu should be booked.A large number of SAD and BJP leaders, including Bikram Singh Majithia and Tarun Chugh, had accompanied Lakhbir to the police station.The municipal councillors also released a video of Dr Sidhu where she is seen meeting Lakhbir in the hospital after the accident. “He never complained to her then and instead was expressing gratitude towards for helping the injured,” said Navdeep.Meanwhile, Sidhu handed over cheques of financial assistance to 5 more victim families of the rail tragedy. Till now a total of 46 out of 58 families had been provided with financial assistance.Interacting with the newspersons, Sidhu said the state government would provide jobs to the eligible family members of those killed in the train tragedy and the people falling in the old age category would be given pension by the government.He also reiterated that he was also committed to help the affected families monetarily and also that the families would not be left in a lurch. The minister also added that though many people are coming forward to adopt the children rendered orphan in the tragedy, the government would only allow the adoption to take place after the completion of formalities and procedures according to the law.When contacted, Amritsar municipal commissioner Sonali Giri said no permission was asked in the letter submitted in her office.
