'Our objections were not considered at all'

On October 23, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal withdrew both their representatives from the committee in protest. SAD president and former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said their struggle would continue till justice was delivered. "Chapters 4 and 5 of the book have the distorted history of Guru Arjan Dev and Guru Gobind Singh. Gagoani, who was in the oversight committee for nearly six months, said the language used for the Sikh gurus was not respectable. We use words like parkash, agman and uday for the birth of Gurus, but the book does not mention them," he said.Gagoani and Balwant Singh Dhillon were the two representatives of the six-member panel constituted by the school board.

AMRITSAR: Alleging that the chairman of the oversight committee (OC) constituted by the Punjab School Education Board to prepare the syllabus of Class XII history textbook deliberately did not pay attention to their objections and suggestions, panel member Inderjit Singh Gagoani said when it was brought to their notice he called the chairman and appraised him about the matter. "We were told that the portions that were objected to will be removed and we believe it will be done," said Gagoani while talking to TOI on Friday.Gagoani said they were forced to write a letter to the committee chairman and also inform the SGPC president about the matter when the objectionable content was not removed. The other four members were appointed by the government.Meanwhile, members of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee continued their dharna on Friday over objectionable content in the Class XII history textbook being prepared by the Punjab School Education Board.
