Teachers spread stir for pay parity

BATHINDA: The teachers under the banner of Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha , staged protests against low salary and transfer to far off places. The state government transferred some of the teachers who participated in the morcha. They demanded full salary upon regularization and staged protest at Patiala . Following which teachers made villagers lock certain schools in Mansa and Bathinda. After holding a rally, they marched towards finance minister Manpreet Badal’s office near the multipurpose sports stadium.

BATHINDA: The teachers under the banner of Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha , staged protests against low salary and transfer to far off places. They have also handed over memorandums to representatives of five ministers and an MP in Punjab.The protesters demand full salary for 8,886 Sarv Sikhiya Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Sikhiya Abhiyan (RMSA) teachers after regularization of their services.Hundreds of teachers, including students of a few schools, assembled at Bathinda district administrative complex. After holding a rally, they marched towards finance minister Manpreet Badal’s office near the multipurpose sports stadium. In October, the state government announced regularization of services of 8,886 SSA and RMSA teachers at a consolidated wage of Rs 15,000 per month during a probation period of three years.Most teachers were working for nearly 10 years and were getting salaries up to Rs 40,000 per month. They demanded full salary upon regularization and staged protest at Patiala . The state government transferred some of the teachers who participated in the morcha. Following which teachers made villagers lock certain schools in Mansa and Bathinda. The education department, on Saturday, issued notices to 24 teachers to file replies by November 5.“We will continue protesting till full salary is provided to teachers and those who are transferred are posted back to their original places of posting.Till then, all teachers have been asked not to join at the new places and boycott programmes like Parho Punjab Padhao Punjab of the education department,” said Sanjha morcha activists Jasgir Singh Sahota and Sikandar Singh.They said the chief minister has called them for talks on Monday and they would intensify the protest if talks fail. Farmers’ organization, BKU Ekta Ugrahan, lent them support on Sunday.
