Dowry death: BSF man, relatives booked

ABOHAR: A constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) and three others were booked on Monday after his wife was found dead in mysterious circumstances at Panjkosi village in Abohar subdivision of Fazilka district . According to information, Shri Ram had availed leave to spend some time with his family and was scheduled to join duty on November 15. Parents of the woman alleged that her in-laws killed her as they were demanding dowry.The accused are yet to be arrested. We rushed to Panjkosi and found the body of my sister hanging from a ceiling fan in her room," he said in his statement. Police have initiated an investigation after registering a case of dowry death on a statement by deceased Kusum's family.In his statement to police, Kusum's brother Mahinder Kumar, a resident of Dholipal village near here, said his sister was married to Shri Ram, a BSF constable posted at New Delhi, in 2013.

He alleged that Poonam's in-laws were harassing her to bring dowry for a year and she was beaten up by her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law on Sunday.Mahinder said she told him about the beating, following which some prominent persons of the area intervened and the matter was resolved amicably the same day. "Today, we were informed that Kusum has committed suicide. We rushed to Panjkosi and found the body of my sister hanging from a ceiling fan in her room," he said in his statement. The matter was reported to the police and body was sent for the postmortem.Acting on the statement of Mahinder, police have registered a case against Shri Ram, his father Kailash Nath, mother Parvati and brother Gaganpreet. According to information, Shri Ram had availed leave to spend some time with his family and was scheduled to join duty on November 15.
