Sacrilege: SIT recreates crime scene with arrested dera men

A fifth accused follower of the dera, Deepak Kumar of Muktsar, was arrested on Sunday. The SIT, added the source, recreated the crime to prepare a foolproof case. The crime scene was created through a chronology of events. BATHINDA: The four followers of Dera Sacha Sauda who have been arrested for the October 2015 sacrilege of a "bir" (copy of Guru Granth Sahib ) at Gurusar village in Bathinda , were taken to the crime scene for recreating the sequence of events on Monday.The Punjab Police special investigation team (SIT) which is probing cases of sacrilege in Moga and Bathinda, also took the four accused to Bhagta Bhai Ka village in Bathinda. It had recovered three motorcycles allegedly used in the crime.In all, 147 pages of the Sikh holy book, from page number 1,273 to 1,430, were found scattered in Gurusar.

BATHINDA: The four followers of Dera Sacha Sauda who have been arrested for the October 2015 sacrilege of a "bir" (copy of Guru Granth Sahib ) at Gurusar village in Bathinda , were taken to the crime scene for recreating the sequence of events on Monday.The Punjab Police special investigation team (SIT) which is probing cases of sacrilege in Moga and Bathinda, also took the four accused to Bhagta Bhai Ka village in Bathinda. Deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Ranbir Singh Khattra, who is heading the SIT, said they wanted to understand the role played by each of the accused in the crime.The four accused, including Dera Sacha Sauda state committee member Jatinderbir alias Jimmy Arora, Kuldeep Singh, Daljit Singh and Sukhmandar Singh, hail from Bhagta Bhai Ka. They were taken to various places in Gurusar, which is 77km from their native village, to know how they scattered the pages of the bir on October 20, 2015.The SIT, said a source, wanted to know the role of each accused, like who collected the pages of the bir, where did they keep them before scattering them on the streets of Gurusar, and who rode which motorcycle to the village. The crime scene was created through a chronology of events. The SIT, added the source, recreated the crime to prepare a foolproof case. It had recovered three motorcycles allegedly used in the crime.In all, 147 pages of the Sikh holy book, from page number 1,273 to 1,430, were found scattered in Gurusar. Villagers spotted the pages and reported the matter to the village gurdwara committee and the police.After this, a case under sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Bhagta Bhai Ka police station against unknown persons.SIT had arrested Jimmy from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on November 7 and the other three accused from Bhagta Bhai Ka on November 10. A fifth accused follower of the dera, Deepak Kumar of Muktsar, was arrested on Sunday.
