Ferozepur on alert after infiltration reports of JeM terrorists

FEROZEPUR: The counter intelligence wing of Punjab Police on Thursday issued an alert in the state following an input on reported infiltration of 6-7 ultras of terror outfit Jash-e-Mohammad (JeM), possibly in Ferozepur area. The input further read that the terrorists had planned to move towards Delhi.With the specific mention of Ferozepur, security arrangements in the area had been beefed up. Confirming the development, Ferozepur range inspector general of police (IGP)M S Chhina said the force had been put on high alert following counter intelligence inputs. Personnel of Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) have started searching the baggage of passengers besides patrolling has been intensified along the tracks. “Special nakas have been put on main highways passing through Ferozepur to look for the suspected vehicles,” he said, adding that suitable counter measures had also been taken.

Speaking to TOI he said, “We are on alert and had a monthly meeting with the BSF officials on Thursday rgarding second line of defence at the border.” He added that with Ferozepur being a border district, the police here was always vigilant and in touch with the BSF.Four unidentified Punjabi-speaking persons had snatched a Toyota Innova from a cab driver near Madhopur in Pathankot district on the night of November 13.The counter intelligence IGP of Punjab has cautioned the force to review and strengthen a second line of defence along the India-Pakistan border and to coordinate closely with the Border Security Force (BSF). The advisory further advised all supervisory field officers to get involved in the planning and implementation of preventive and precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incident.Meanwhile, the railways have also beefed up security at all important railway stations falling under Ferozepur division. Personnel of Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) have started searching the baggage of passengers besides patrolling has been intensified along the tracks.
