Amritsar police commissioner SS Srivastava said it was too early to comment on whether more than one assailant was responsible for the attack on Sharma. "AAP Majha zone incharge Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal blamed the Congress government for increasing lawlessness in the state. "No one is safe under the Congress's rule; this is the second such incident in two days," he said. It appears there's no security for life of ordinary people in Punjab. "He is stable now and we will talk to him," he said.

AMRITSAR: Two days after a grenade attack on a Nirankari congregation at Rajasansi in Amritsar in which three people were killed, an unidentified assailant shot at Aam Aadmi Party 's former Amritsar district (urban) president Suresh Sharma at his shop in Chhehrata area of the city on Tuesday evening.Sharma was hit by three bullets in his legs and was rushed to a private hospital where he is said to be out of danger. The shooting, in one of the city's busiest areas, occurred even as the police and other security agencies are on the highest state of alert after Sunday's grenade attack.Sharma, an RTI activist, was a member of the political affairs committee set up by the Sukhpal Khaira group and the AAP had recently removed him from the post of Amritsar district (urban) president and replaced him with Ashok Talwar. Amritsar police commissioner SS Srivastava said it was too early to comment on whether more than one assailant was responsible for the attack on Sharma. "He is stable now and we will talk to him," he said. Police didn't rule out the possibility of personal enmity as the motive of the crime, because Sharma is also an RTI activist. The assailant had a short discussion with Sharma before he fired at him. "If the assailant had wanted to kill him, he could have shot him in his head or chest," said sources, adding that the motive could be to just threaten him.Condemning the attack on his fellow politician, AAP's suspended MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira said, "It speaks of the total breakdown of law and order in Punjab as he was shot in a busy market in broad daylight. It appears there's no security for life of ordinary people in Punjab. We demand immediate arrest of the culprits and stringent action against them."AAP Majha zone incharge Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal blamed the Congress government for increasing lawlessness in the state. "No one is safe under the Congress's rule; this is the second such incident in two days," he said.
