Trial deferred in unlawful activities case

BATHINDA: A Faridkot court on Tuesday indefinitely deferred the proceedings in a case registered against two men under the Unlawful (Prevention) Activities Act for allegedly trying to revive militancy in Punjab. Sandeep Singh and Amar Singh were arrested on May 10, on allegations of being members of the banned outfit Khalistan Liberation Force.The court deferred the proceedings as the district police failed to obtain the necessary approval from the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) to proceed further in the case. The duo was arrested after police had recovered two pistols of .30 bore with cartridges. Kotkapura DSP Manwinderbir Singh said the challan had already been presented in court. "We are waiting for an approval from the home ministry. We have sent reminders and are hopeful of getting the approval at the earliest," he said.
