CHANDIGARH: Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu , who addressed 79 back-to-back rallies as a star campaigner of the Congress for 17 days, hailed his party’s victory in three states on Monday and said it would prove to be a precursor to the general elections next year.Party sources said Sidhu campaigned in high-stakes seats where the balance could have swung either way — towards the Congress or the BJP. He campaigned in seats such as that of Congress veteran Motilal Vora’s son Arun Vora from Durg in Chhattisgarh, state party chief Bhupesh Baghel from Patan, and Congress leader Harish Choudhary from Baytoo in Rajasthan Sidhu told TOI from Delhi: “It’s a victory of Rahul Gandhi’s vision. I had the opportunity to address many rallies and could feel groundswell (of support) for the Congress. There is anger in the minds of people against the present regime.” He tweeted a photo with other leaders, captioned: “Winning is not everything, it is the only thing! Basking in the glory.”A Congress leader who accompanied Sidhu for campaigning, said, “The party has won nearly 90% of seats where Sidhu campaigned. In Madhya Pradesh, he campaigned in seats that had been with rivals for 2-3 terms.”Sidhu was to address 85 rallies, but damaged his vocal cords and some of his rallies had to be cancelled. He has been advised bed rest for a week and will be back in Chandigarh on Wednesday. The winter session of Punjab assembly is scheduled from December 13.
