AMRITSAR: Differences surfaced between parallel jathedars when Takht Damdama Sahib jathedar Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal refused to accompany acting jathedar of Akal Takht Bhai Dhian Singh Mand to the Golden Temple for thanksgiving prayers. Instead, he chose to come on his own.“Mand lifted the morcha in haste and I am not happy with his decision. The morcha should have been lifted only after taking the Panth into confidence. That’s why I didn’t come with him but am reaching Golden Temple on my own to offer thanksgiving prayers,” said Daduwal on Tuesday. He said all the achievements made through the Bargari morcha had come to naught because of the hasty decision taken without consultations with the sangat. The Bargari morcha was lifted after 192 days on December 9 after two cabinet ministers from Punjab announced that the government had accepted their demands. At the thanksgiving prayer, Mand reiterated the government’s assurance. When asked why Baljit Singh Daduwal didn’t accompany him, he said Daduwal had religious programmes to attend to. He also denied any problems between him, Daduwal and Amrik Singh Ajnala.Mand said they would hold their next meeting in Fategarh Sahib on December 20 to announce the programme for the second phase of the struggle. “We will bring Hawara to Punjab to ensure release of Sikh prisoners,” he said.Daduwal however, said he did not know why Mand said he was busy with religious programmes. When asked how and why the decision to lift the morcha was taken, he said, “Mand talked to the government and only he can tell what transpired between them. All I can say is that neither me nor the sangat were taken into confidence before the announcement of lifting the morcha was made.”“We supported him till the last minute but he didn’t listen,” he said. When asked if they would struggle together for the causes the morcha was dedicated to, he said, “We will see later. But I will continue to struggle as I had been doing earlier.” Some Sikh organisations including SAD 1920 Buta Singh Ransihke also expressed anger at the morcha being lifted without demands being met. AAP MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira said the government would deceive the organizers.
