Faridkot rape survivor, kin paid Rs 90 lakh compensation

The Red Cross had provided the money to the revenue authorities — Rs. BATHINDA: Over three months after the Punjab and Haryana high court directed the Faridkot district authorities to pay Rs 90 lakh compensation to rape survivor and her family by raising the money from auction of the rape convict’s property, the aggrieved family has finally got the relief amount.The district revenue authorities handed over three cheques amounting to Rs 90 lakh — Rs 50 lakh to the survivor Rs 20 lakh each to her parents — on Monday. 25 lakh on November 13 and Rs 66 lakh on November 24. The family remains socially cut off, she said.The Faridkot district revenue authorities had to organize the auction, as directed by the Punjab and Haryana high court, two times. The money was raised after the District Red Cross Society purchased 3.5 acre of agricultural land owned by rape convict Nishan Singh’s family for Rs 91 lakh in an open auction on November 13.
