Teacher arrested for sexual harassment of 10-year-old girl student

BATHINDA: The Mansa police have arrested a schoolteacher, 35, for alleged sexual harassment of a 10-year-old girl student. They said since the teacher was known to them, they sent the girl to school. He told them that he had to do some panchayat election related work and needed her help. It was only in the evening, when she returned home, did they learn that she was the only student there and that the teacher “did indecent things” with her.Mansa SSP Mandhir Singh said, “The girl’s family had made a complaint, based on which we have arrested the teacher and registered a case of sexual harassment, outraging modesty of woman and under Pocso Act against him.” A case under charges of assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty, sexual harassment and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences ( Pocso ) Act has been registered against the government primary school teacher in Mansa district.However, the family members of the accused teacher have termed it as a false case.In their complaint to police, the girl’s family alleged that the teacher had made a phone call at their residence on December 12, which was a holiday on account of martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur.
