Amritsar: Lohri festival to be celebrated on lines of Jashan-e-Bahara of Lahore

According to Pakistan media reports the ban has now been lifted ahead of Jasha-e-Bahara festival .Sangha informed that besides kite flying competitions, they would also put up different stalls to bring awareness among general public about various social services launched by administration.While clarifying that administration would allow use of only desi dor (string) during the kite flying competitions, he said that a crackdown against people selling China dor has also begun.Meanwhile a kite seller Jagmohan said that ever since the announcement for kite flying competition by the administration, the sale of desi dor and kites has increased. AMRITSAR : On the lines of Lahore’s one of most popular festival Jashan-e- Bahara or Mela Basant Bahar which marks the onset of spring season , Amritsar district administration has for the first time decided to celebrate Lohri festival which is also celebrated to mark the end of peak winter.While talking to TOI on Thursday, deputy commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha informed that for the first time administration had decided to celebrate Lohri and had extended open invitation to every one to join the festivities at Ranjit Avenue ground The festival would begin at 10 am and conclude at 3 pm on January 12 during which kite flying competitions would be held .He said kite flying had been a tradition in Amritsar which was famous across the state and the proposed festival also aimed at encouraging kite flying enthusiasts adding that the winner of kite flying competition would be awarded a sum of Rs 11000.Notably kite flying is not a tradition in Amritsar alone but in Lahore also.
