FEROZEPUR: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted at Border Road police post in Ferozepur had a miraculous escape on Tuesday night when two men riding a motorcycle fired at him, but the bullet could not pierce his thick leather belt and got stuck in it.ASI Sat Pal Handa was about to enter the police post when he came under attack. Though the bullet pierced the woollen jacket worn by Handa, it did not get past the belt, which is part of the police uniform.Handa was on duty when the incident took place. It is suspected that two youths who Handa and another cop had stopped from creating a nuisance at night are behind the firing.Police are examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed in nearby areas to identify the assailants, who fled from the spot.In his complaint, Handa, who is in-charge of the police post, said he and a Home Guard jawan were patrolling Bharat Nagar and Basti Awwa areas of Feozepur on his motorcycle when they spotted some youths creating a nuisance on the road. When the cops asked them to stop, one of the boys threatened the ASI, but they went ahead with patrolling the area, alleged the ASI.When he returned to the post and was entering the room, two men riding a motorcycle reached the main gate and the one riding pillion shot at Handa. Before he could react, the policeman was shot, it was alleged. The assailants then sped away on a motorcycle.Ferozepur City police station SHO Pushpinder Pal Sharma said the police were looking for leads in the case. The case has been registered at Ferozepur City police station.
