CHANDIGARH/BATHINDA: SAD’s former MLA from Kotkapura Mantar Singh Brar has sought action against “Congress leaders and government officials for conniving mischievously to add his ineligible mother’s name among the beneficiaries of the Punjab government’s crop loan waiver scheme”. On the other hand, Faridkot Congress MLA Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon, who had distributed the relief certificates said, “It is not possible to include name of anyone ineligible. Everybody on the list has to give undertaking that he or she is eligible.”Former chief parliamentary secretary Brar said that his mother never applied for the crop loan waiver scheme and never submitted any affidavit. He said a criminal case of forgery should be registered against Faridkot politicians and officers who had included his mother Manjit Kaur’s name as a beneficiary despite the fact that she was receiving pension.“She will not accept any money from the government under this scheme and our family appeals to the government to cover any genuine beneficiaries instead of resorting to such cheap tactics to avoid implementing a complete loan waiver. This smack of a political conspiracy to defame the SAD,” he alleged. The Akali leader said that he would be writing to chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to demand a thorough inquiry into the entire issue.He said an inquiry should conducted into the role of local Congress leaders who had sounded off the media that his mother, who was receiving pension of his late father minister Jaswinder Singh Brar, was on the beneficiary list. “Few other Akali leaders, including SGPC member Sukhdev Singh Baht, have also informed me that the name of their family members has been included in the beneficiary list without their knowledge,” he claimed.Debt relief certificates of Rs 31.66 crore were given to 5,123 small farmers, having land up to 5 acres, at a function held at Faridkot on February 2, by MLA Dhillon. He said that it was nobody’s name could be added on a whim and the farmers have to give an undertaking too.
