Dyal Singh Kolianwali gets legal notice as Rs 33 lakh cheque bounces

BATHINDA: The Punjab State Cooperative Agricultural Development Bank (PADB) has sent a notice to Akali leader Dyal Singh Kolianwali after the Rs 33 lakh cheque given by him in May 2018 for repaying his outstanding loan was dishonoured. Kolianwali, who is a known confidant of former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, was sent a legal notice by the Malout branch of PADB, asking him to deposit the loan instalment before filing suit in the competent court.Out of the Rs 95.70 lakh amount outstanding against Kolianwali’s family, Rs 30 lakh was paid on May 14, 2018 and two cheques of Rs 33 lakh and Rs 32.70 lakh provided were to be used after December 31, 2018 and June 30, 2019. On May 14, Kolianwali had handed over three cheques for the entire default amount of Rs 95.70 lakh for loans obtained from the Malout branch of PADB in 2004.PADB Malout branch manager Krishan Kant Sharma and Malout assistant registrar cooperative societies Sonu Mahajan when contacted said the notice has been sent to the Kolianwali family for payment of the loan instalment otherwise a suit would be filed in the court for recovery of loan amount. The cheque presented in the first week of January 2019 was dishonoured and the bank authorities after waiting for a mandatory period of one month have sent him a legal notice.Earlier, after evading arrest for five and a half months, Kolianwali had surrendered before a Mohali court on December 14, 2018 in a disproportionate assets case and prevention of corruption during his stint of holding public office registered by Punjab vigilance bureau on June 30, 2018.After Punjab cooperation minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa talked about acting tough against wilful loan defaulters, PADB had pasted notices outside the Akali leader’s residence on May 9, 2018 for recovery of loans in the name of Kolianwali, his wife Amarjit Kaur and son Parminder Singh.
