BATHINDA: Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal on Saturday asked his estranged Union minister sister-in-law, Harsimrat Kaur Badal , to first declare herself as the SAD candidate from Bathinda and only then ask him to contest against her.Manpreet and Harsimrat have been in a war of words over the contest from Bathinda. Let Harsimrat first declare her candidature then I will speak on it,” said Manpreet, answering queries about Harsimrat challenging him to contest against her from Bathinda parliamentary constituency. “Now when she has lost that power, she is thinking of going away from Bathinda,” he said.Countering it on Friday, Harsimrat had challenged Manpreet to contest against her from Bathinda. Harsimrat won by a narrow margin, and this has become the reason for the two getting into a fight now.

Harsimrat won by a narrow margin, and this has become the reason for the two getting into a fight now. “I do not want to get into this. Let Harsimrat first declare her candidature then I will speak on it,” said Manpreet, answering queries about Harsimrat challenging him to contest against her from Bathinda parliamentary constituency. Manpreet said he was a “soldier of AICC president Rahul Gandhi”. “ I will perform any role he assigns me, with utmost devotion,” he said.The latest fight between Manpreet and Harsimrat started on Thursday. Commenting on rumours of Harsimrat planning to shift from Bathinda seat to Ferozepur, the Punjab minister had said that the civil administration and police were behind Harsimrat in 2014, but she could win only by 19,000 votes. “Now when she has lost that power, she is thinking of going away from Bathinda,” he said.Countering it on Friday, Harsimrat had challenged Manpreet to contest against her from Bathinda. She had claimed that Manpreet would not have anything to complain of as the administration and police would now be at his beck and call.On Punjab Ekta Party leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira declaring his candidature from Bathinda, Punjab minister Manpreet Badal said everyone had the right to contest the polls.Commenting on the two-year performance of the Congress government in Punjab, he said it was for the first time in many years that Punjab had come into the primary surplus in the economic front where income was more than expenses of the government. “The government has a surplus of Rs 1,650 crore in treasury; when took over in 2017, Punjab was bankrupt,” he said.
