No Taksali tie-up, AAP looks for Majha nominees

AAP has already announced its Majha zone incharge, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, as its candidate from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat. “It is not that we will contest all 13 seats in Punjab; we will field candidates where we have winning prospects. Their names will be announced soon,” Dhaliwal told TOI on Monday.He said the alliance couldn’t be forged because the Taksalis and AAP had “major differences” over Anandpur Sahib seat. “There is no problem of candidates in AAP. We are holding meetings with workers and supporters, and would announce candidates after receiving their suggestions,” he said.

AMRITSAR: With its talks of an alliance with SAD ( Taksali ) not fructifying, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will now have to look for candidates from Gurdaspur and Khadoor Sahib parliamentary seats.The two constituencies fall in Punjab’s Malwa region, which comprises three Lok Sabha seats and where Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) claims to have clout. AAP has already announced its Majha zone incharge, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, as its candidate from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat. It had not announced candidates from Gurdaspur and Khadoor Sahib in view of its talks with the Taksalis.The Badal family-led Shiromani Akali Dal and the newly formed Punjab Democratic Alliance have already announced former SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur and Paramjit Kaur Khalra as their candidates, respectively. Paramjit is the widow of Jaswant Singh Khalra, the human rights activist who brought attention to 25,000 disappearances involving the police in Punjab from 1984 to 1995. “There is no problem of candidates in AAP. We have talented and hardworking volunteers. Their names will be announced soon,” Dhaliwal told TOI on Monday.He said the alliance couldn’t be forged because the Taksalis and AAP had “major differences” over Anandpur Sahib seat. “We are ready to contest all 13 Lok Sabha seats on our own” he said.AAP has announced Narinder Singh Shergill from Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency, while the Taksalis have named Punjab assembly former deputy speaker Bir Devinder Singh from the seat. This created differences between the two as none of the two was willing to withdraw their candidates.Ravinder Singh Brahampura, son of SAD (Taksali) president Ranjit Singh Brahampura, said Anandpur Sahib was an important seat for them. He, however, informed that party was yet to announce its candidates from other seats. “It is not that we will contest all 13 seats in Punjab; we will field candidates where we have winning prospects.
