BATHINDA: In a setback to former SAD MLA Mantar Singh Brar, who is seeking protection from imminent arrest, the court of Faridkot district and session judge Harpal Singh on Wednesday rejected his anticipatory bail application in connection with the probe into the Octover 2015 Behbal Kalan police firing and Bargari sacrilege incidents.Now, the special investigations team (SIT) which is probing the case, is planning to arrest him soon, according to a source.During the hearing of the bail plea, the prosecution claimed that Brar used his influence in influencing officials and not allowing some persons injured in police action from getting treatment as medicolegal reports were not prepared.Faridkot district attorney Rajnish Goyal said the prosecution told the court that because Brar used his influence, some protesters injured in cane charge during the protest at Behnal Kalan, Faridkot, did not get treatment. He was also on the phone with police officials before and after police action at Kotkapura , claimed the prosecution. It said the SIT wanted to know the motive behind the alleged action and that Brar’s custodial interrogation was a must for that. Accepting the argument, the court rejected the bail application.Meanwhile, the court of Faridkot judicial magistrate first class (JMIC) Ekta Uppal on Tuesday issued a production warrant against former SSP Charanjit Singh Sharma. The warrant was issued after SIT included him Kotkapura police action case. The warrant is returnable by March 25.Earlier, SSP Sharma was lodged in jail in the October 14, 2015, police firing case in which two protesters, Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Gurjit Singh, were killed at Behbal Kalan, Faridkot.
