AMRITSAR: Having won eight of the total nine assembly seats under Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency in the 2017 polls, the Congress has asked all its MLAs from the segment to ensure its victory in the parliamentary polls this year.Three MLAs, Navjot Singh Sidhu from Amritsar East (who has been a two-time MP from Amritsar), Om Parkash Soni from Amritsar Central and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria from Rajasansi, were awarded with ministerial berths for their performance in 2017. "The Congress has not fulfilled many of its populist pre-poll promises, so this could show in the polls," said a leader of the Congress who didn't want to give his name. There is also talk of some Congress leaders having met chief minister Amarinder Singh to push for the candidature of a non-Jat, urban Sikh leader from the seat.
