AMRITSAR: Will Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) resume an annual grant of Rs 2 crore given to Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SGRDIMSR) and Rs 20,000 to cancer patients in its annual budget?According to sources, the discontinuation of annual grant of Rs 2 crore to SGRDIMSR had put an additional burden on the medical institution which was a charitable organization. “The institution is now self-dependent,“ he said.Despite discontinuation of annual grant, Dean Dr AP Singh said SGRDIMSR provides various medical facilities to patients at much cheaper rates from the market. The SGRDIMSR had also proposed a medical facility at the Indian side of Kartarpur corridor for the pilgrims, added he. Giving example, he said a day’s fee of ICU at SGRDIMSR was Rs 4200 only as against Rs 20,000 in private hospitals.The SGPC’s budget session is scheduled for March 30. "Patients consider that the hospital is being run from the offerings received at Golden Temple and they expect a lot of concessions in surgeries, emergency services etc, the Rs 2 crore SGPC’s annual grant was of great help to meet patients expectations.
