People bid final adieu to rifleman Karamjit Singh

Karamjit had joined Army in 2015 and was posted in Jammu and Kashmir for over one and a half year. His father Avtar Singh had also retired from the Army. BATHINDA:People turned out in large numbers to bid a final adieu to Rifleman Karamjit Singh (24), at the memorial service held at his native village in Dharamkot sub-division of Moga on Thursday.Karamjit, a resident of Janer village in Moga, was martyred during a ceasefire violation at LoC in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on March 18.On Thursday, his family members were handed over two cheques of Rs 2.5 lakh each by Moga deputy commissioner Sandeep Hans during the memorial service. The cheque was presented over to his parents on behalf of the Punjab government.Karamjit was seriously injured in unprovoked firing by Pakistan troops along the LoC in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir during the wee hours of March 18.He later succumbed to his injuries and cremated at his village the next day.
