Kartarpur: Pakistan may issue visa-free ‘Nanak Parwana’ to Indian pilgrims

During the March 14 meeting both sides had agreed that Indian pilgrims would be carrying their passports to visit Kartarpur Sahib. AMRITSAR: Instead of issuing a visa for travelling to Kartarpur Sahib, the Pakistan government is mulling issuing ‘Nanak Parwana’ (Nanak’s written permission) to Indian devotees.Speaking to TOI here on Saturday, intelligence sources that Pakistan government was considering issuing a permit, by the name of ‘Nanak Parwana’, to Indian pilgrims who would be travelling to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib, in Narowal district of Pakistan through the proposed Kartarpur corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district . This was for the first time that India and Pakistan had issued a joint press statement since Heart of Asia-2015. The Indian side would send details of the pilgrims three days in advance of their visit.“The list will be vetted by Pakistan and those whose names will be cleared would be issued ‘Nanak Parwana’ without any fee,” said sources, adding that there was a possibility that Pakistan could reject several names as it rejects while issuing pilgrims visa to devotees. The sources said the religious permit named after Guru Nanak Dev was to be issued without any fee for now.“As per understanding between two countries, the visit to Kartarpur Sahib will be visa free but Pakistan government would have all details of persons visiting their country, so they could be issuing permits which they have named Nanak Parwana” said the sources.They further that Pakistan government could have made the offer to issue ‘Nanak Parwanas’ to Indian pilgrims during their April 2 meet, which had now been postponed since Pakistan government failed to give certain clarifications sought by India ahead of the proposed second meeting of the high-level delegation to be held at Wagah.The first meeting of the delegations from two countries was held at Attari on March 14, where both countries had issued a joint statement.
