Rs 30L ornaments looted at gunpoint in Mohan Nagar

The house belonged to a goldsmith, identified as Jasbir Singh, who also provided loan service to people. According to information, the robbers decamped with jewellery and cash worth Rs 30 lakh, but police officials said the family is yet to provide accurate details of the valuables. Physically challenged Satnam Singh, son of Jasbir Singh, said he was present at his house when two persons came and asked for him. As his mother opened the gate, they entered the house and took the family members, including his mother, sister and him, hostage at gunpoint. They demanded the keys of the almirahs and locker. After opening the safe, they decamped with the valuables. He said one of them had covered his face while another did not. He said he did not know them. Jasbir Singh said he was not present at home while his another son, Tarlok Singh, was out for some work. A preliminary probe revealed that one of their accomplices remained outside the house on a bike. When his accomplices came out, they fled away. Jaspreet Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, said the police had got a CCTV footage in which the accused were seen on a motorcycle. They had covered their faces. He said further investigation was under way and the police were working on different theories. He said some insider’s hand could not be ruled out. NRI robbed An Australia-based NRI, identified as Jaswinder Singh, was robbed by several armed robbers near Sangatpura village here on Thursday. Hailing from Moga, he, along with his family members, had come to Amritsar to meet his relatives. Jaswinder informed the police that at 9 pm near Sangatpura village canal, four persons in an SUV intercepted their vehicle and took out his gold ‘kara’ (bracelet) and ring besides snatching the purse of his wife containing Australian currency. The robbed items are worth Rs 1.85 lakh.
